QUICK QUEST SUMMARY

Trigger the quest at Windurst, talk to a goblin at Jueno, kill Climbpix Highrise on Sauromugue Champaign to get item (Grapnel), trade Grapnel to tower at Sauromugue Champaign, go to Dangruf Wadi and trade items to ??? spots in order to spawn goblins who you must beat at dice, kill Gambilox Wanderling on North Gustaberg to get item (Regal Die), go back to Jueno and trade item to the goblin, go to Windurst and get your Rogue's Bonnet from Nanna Mihgo.

Part 1: The Preparatory Stuff (Solo)

As usual, head to Windurst and speak with Nanna Mihgo. She asks you to get more envelopes signed by a pair of thieves. After speaking to her nearby associates, you discover that one thief is located in Sauromugue Champaign and the other is at Gutvik's Goods in Lower Jueno.

Head to Gutvik's Goods in Lower Jueno and speak with the goblin Sniggnix who is in the hallway between the front and rear parts of the shop. He challenges you to a dice roll. When you beat him, he suggests you need to go to Dangruf Wadi. Important: You won't be going to Dangruf Wadi right away, but make sure to speak to Sniggnix now. Talking to him and winning the roll unlocks the Dangruf Wadi portion, allowing you to trade the items to the ??? spots later on. The worst thing you can do is skip Sniggix now, kill Climbpix and then run to Dangruf Wadi... only to find out you need to trek back to Jueno while your party waits.

This completes your prerequisites, you now need to recruit a party and fight the first NM.

Part 2: Notorious Monster Battle #1 (Need Party)

You need to find a party of players to fight a NM Goblin named Climbpix Highrise on Sauromugue Champaign. He is a thief, and will use Perfect Dodge during the battle. Try to get a high level tank (60+) and as many nukers as possible because melee fighters will not do much to him. The fight isn't all that dangerous, but do not try to take him out with a normal 53~ EXP party.

Once you have a willing party, head out to Sauromugue Champaign and begin to examine the ??? spots at the 6 stone towers. Examining the right tower will spawn Climbpix, but his spawn rotates (not sure if it changes when you zone, or after every time Climbpix is killed), so I can't tell you exactly which one it will be. Simply run around and examine them all until you find the right one. When you are at an incorrect tower it will tell you something like, "This tower is too tall to be climbed with your bare hands." When you find the right one it will say approximately, "Something came down from the tower!" Get ready to fight!

The only spot that is a pain to get to is the tower at I-10. It is up on a ledge and can only be reached by going through Garliage Citadel. If you examine the other five spots and get no Climbpix, you are faced with a decision. Your first option is to suffer through Garliage Citadel and zone back to Sauromugue Champaign to reach the necessary tower. Your second option is to zone out to Meriphataud Mountains and come back, hoping that his spawn point will have changed to one of the more accessible towers. The last option is to give up and come back another day when hopefully his spawn is at one of the normal towers. I suggest you just bite the bullet and go through Garliage Citadel, because this happened to me and it's what we did. Update 5/28/08: Again, I am not sure if the spawn point changes on when you zone out of Sauromugue Champaign, or only after Climbpix has been killed and respawns. I have had people email me that it doesn't change when you zone, and I just got an email saying it does change when you zone. Jury is still out on this one folks, but if I had to put my money down, I would bet that it doesn't change when you zone.

Update 5/28/08: This "I-10 tower dilemma" is one of the most annoying parts of getting your AF set, and one I get a fair amount of emails about. Getting through GC requires a good leader who knows what he is doing, since you must pass those doors that require 4 people to stand on the levers. I wish I could provide a GC walkthrough for you, but when I did this I hopped in with another group who ran through very quickly. I don't remember any of the critical details, so you are pretty much on your own here. Best thing to do is get a veteran who has been through GC a bunch and have him/her come along. If I ever get enough info about getting through GC I will probably add it to the guide. If anyone is a master of this part and wants to email me a walkthrough, or add it to the ffxi.allakhazam.com thread, I'm sure it would help a lot of people.

Battle Tips/Details:

If you found enough high level help and numerous mages, this battle isn't that hard. Climbpix will usually use Perfect Dodge when he gets around 50% HP, though I have seen him killed where he never used it. Just keep the tank healed and nuke the silly goblin and he will die. You will likely have a hard time doing this with a normal PT of 53~ people. When I did this, the party consisted of a 73 THF, 65 RDM, two 54 THFs, and we may have had a WHM also. We were never in danger. Update 12/2/04: Just for reference I had someone tell me that a 67 BST/WHM can solo this mob and not even come close to dying. So if you have a higher level contact, by all means bring them along. Update 5/28/05: I had another email saying that they brought along a 63 BST and he barely won the fight and it took 20 minutes, so take those two comments as you will. I still suggest bringing excessive firepower just in case.

Climbpix will drop a Grapnel, a hook device that is used to climb towers. The thief in need should lot on item, and have inventory space for it. If you have more than one thief that needs the item, heal up MP and wait about 5 minutes, then go try to spawn Climbpix again. He will likely move to a different tower, so you may need to examine all the towers again.

Once you get your Grapnel, you can inform your party that they are free to go. Be sure to thank them kindly. You should stay in Sauromugue Champaign however to finish up this part of the quest.

Part 3: Nude Scene and Dice with Goblins (Solo)

Go to the tower at I-7/J-7 and take off all of your gear. You need to be completely naked for this to work. Trade the Grapnel to the ??? point on the tower and a cut scene will occur. If you are not naked, it won't trigger. From my experience, this part will always take place at only the I-7/J-7 tower, however Tils' guide mentions that someone had it happen at a different tower. A little thief will sign your letter, cool! Now your next destination is Dangruf Wadi.

Make your way to Dangruf Wadi, but bring some items with you. You will need Rock Salt, Gausebit Wildgrass and Lizard Eggs. You are going to be trading these items to 3 ??? spots and rolling dice with 3 goblins. If you lose any of the rolls you must start over and trade the items again, so it is a good idea to have about five or more of each on you to be safe. You can either buy these items, but if you love being self-sufficient like me you can farm them in of all places, Dangruf Wadi! Get the salt off of Snippers at H-3 (or the crabs in Fumaroles), grass off the Wadi Hares at H-6 and eggs off of Steam Lizards at G-5. Update 5/28/08: Tydus from Diabolos reminded me that there are also Wadi Hares in the E-7 area, so feel free to try and nab some grass there. That is also a spawn point for the Geyser Lizard NM, which Tydus said spawned while he was there, and he got the drop, making some money! Might be a fun spot to farm the grass, you never know if you will get lucky also.

Goblin #1, Saltvix: With items in hand, go to the ??? point at the little nub in F-7. Trade a Rock Salt to the ??? to spawn Saltvix. If you lose the roll you must trade another Rock Salt and roll again.

Goblin #2, Grasswix: Now go to the ??? point in F-4. Trade a Gausebit Wildgrass to the ??? to spawn Grasswix. If you lose the roll you must go back and roll with Saltvix and then try again.

Goblin #3, Eggblix: Finally, go to the seemingly dead end at F-11/G-11 and find the fake wall. Go through and you will see a cermet door and hole in the ground. Fall down the hole, go left and trade a Lizard Egg to the ??? to spawn Eggblix. If you lose you must go back and roll with Saltvix and then Grasswix and then try again. Starting over is VERY tedious.

Once you have won all the rolls, you are in the clear and are ready for the second NM battle. I suggest you do this on your own, then return with a NM party whenever you get the chance. DO NOT bring a party here and then do all the rolling stuff, people will get annoyed with you and leave.

Part 4: Notorious Monster Battle #2 (Need Party)

This is another NM goblin named Gambilox Wanderling. She tosses a ton of bombs, sometimes back to back. When we fought her, she tossed about 5 bombs and our NIN tank got so low that a critical hit or two soon after killed him. Try to get as high a tank as possible and plenty of mages. Having a DRK with you (to help cast Stun) also is a good idea. The less bombs she chucks the better.

When your party is ready, take them to Dangruf Wadi to the NE tip where you will zone out to North Gustaberg (Drachenfall). Do not cross any bridges, stay on the right path to the waterfall. Kill the Goblins and Pugils on the way to build TP. At the end of the path you will see a ???. Examining the point will spawn Gambilox Wanderling. Get ready!

Battle Tips/Details:

Kill her as fast as possible and try to stun as many of the bombs as you can. It's not that difficult, but multiple bombs can hit you all hard. Make sure mages are out of range and be sure to use Barfira. Keep everyone at high HP to prevent bomb kills. Update 12/2/04: Just for reference I had someone tell me that a 67 BST/WHM can solo this mob and not even come close to dying. So if you have a higher level contact, by all means bring them along.

After you kill Gambilox, go back and examine the ??? and you will receive the Regal Die. It is not a key item so you need space in your inventory for it. That's it, thank your party and send them on their way. Hopefully you have a BLM with Warp II.

If you have multiple thieves who all need the item, you will need to kill Gambilox again. They Regal Die can only be obtained from the ??? by the thief who triggered the spawn (so one kill for every thief that needs the item). The required wait time before you can spawn her again is about 5 minutes.

Part 5: Getting the Bonnet (Solo)

Go back to Lower Jueno to Gutvik's Goods and trade the Regal Die to Sniggnix.
There will be a cut scene where you get the second signature you need.

Go back to Windurst and talk with Nanna Mihgo to get your new hat! It has quite the INT boost, a stat which is rumored to improve our stealing and lock picking success (nobody knows for sure). It really isn't party-worthy gear though so you are better off with something else for team play.
